Is Your Home’s Foundation Ailing? Install a Gutter Guard to Save It

Gutters are the long channels of (mostly) metal which sit along the lower edge of your roof. They’re primarily designed to catch water that hits your roof when it rains or when snow melts, to ensure that water travels safely to the ground away from the foundation. Gutters are angled slightly so they could direct water to downspouts, which then carry the water well away from your home’s understructure, which should never accumulate moisture. If the gutters are clogged in any way, the water will simply overflow to the ground and pool around the foundation where moisture can unduly stress your foundation material (and the soil around it) by continuous contraction and expansion. With cracks and leaks starting to show around the house, that’s when you should know that it’s time to install a state-of-the-art gutter guard real soon.
