Installing Gutter Guards Can Protect Your Foundation from Water Damage

The gutter channels all water that flows down the roof into downspouts to keep it from pooling near your home and damaging your home’s foundation. According to Angie’s List, pooling water saturates the soil surrounding the basement, exerting enormous pressure on its walls. Over time, water infiltrates the basement through wall cracks caused by pooling pressure. As the water drains off, the change in soil state (from wet to dry) can cause the foundation to settle, which can lead to unleveled flooring and wall cracks above it. Eventually, mold begins to accumulate, which, aside from creating an unpleasant smell, can also compromise indoor air quality and lead to serious health issues.
