Why You May Already Need Gutter Guards

Do you have tall pine trees growing close to your home? Chances are, its needles often clog your rain gutters—which can be bad. With clogged gutters, rainwater runoff becomes an issue, as it could end up damaging your home and its foundation.

Fortunately, there is an effective solution to this problem—gutter guards. Quality gutter guard systems are usually made of durable aluminum and stainless steel mesh designed to keep out large clog-forming debris like pine needles while allowing rainwater to drain through the gutter system freely.

You may ask, what if pine needles are too few to clog the gutter system, does that mean you don’t need gutter guards? Pine needles are an unusual type of debris. Although finding some here and there poses no threat to your gutter system, there could already be an issue with your downspout.

In general, downspouts consist of a few zip screws and contain a fair amount of caulking. The bad news is that these materials can easily snag pine needles that over time could build up and cause a clog. In that sense, it doesn’t matter if you have a few or a lot of pine needles falling on your rooftops, it will always make sense to install a gutter guard on top of your gutter system to protect it from clogging as well as premature deterioration.
